This week I worked on creating assets to dress the scene. I created books and glasses to help fill space and make the area feel more populated. I also created an old school Victorian popcorn machine to be placed at the back of the theatre. This project gave me the space to create an more unique and fun asset to dress the scene. Following this, I dressed the bar of the scene with the assets. I also created an oil lamp for backstage.
This blog is intended to record and evidence the development of work in our Off The Map project.

Week 7- More Assets
This week I looked at creating assets for backstage. First off, I changed the shelves- taking off the ornate decor that would have been fitting for the dressing rooms but didn't give the worker effect we were looking for. I then looked at lighting and so created a limelight for the backstage to fit between the curtains. As well as this, I created a spotlight to be placed on the flying gallery.
Week 6 + 7 New assets
low poly vs high:

I then found that once I imported the curtains into the level, they were just floating in the air, so I did some research and created a frame and pully system to support them:
I also created a plant and pot to sit at either side of the main entrance, like I put in my bar concept:
Lastly during these weeks I imported my assets into the level:

Week 6 & 7 - Easter
I've put these two weeks together as Easter disrupted my time a lot
In these two weeks I have:
- Textured the second floor
- Asset placement in the level - Chairs, Plants Rough layout of backstage
- Redid the carpet - Made it worn and have better normals
- Blocked out and modelled the loading rig which is currently being textured
- Modelled a lighting rig and imported into the level
- Modelled, textured and placed in engine some backstage props (ladders, trunks, etc)
I think the second floor looks really grand now with the gold trim and having all the chairs placed brings it together
You can also see the new carpet I made which I think looks much better and sits better in the scene
This was a rough layout I created using assets already in the level and a blockout of the loading deck which I made quickly before modelling the real thing - Jasmine will be making this curtains black to 'blackout' the backstage for the theatre goers
This was very quick to model as Beth had already modelled the lime lights, I just had to make the framework so texturing this will also be very quick
Here's a screenshot of WIP loading gallery - the design is very basic as there is no need to make it fancy as it can only be seen by the stagehands - I am currently texturing this and will be finished very soon
These are screenshots of my finished trunk and two types of ladder - I'm very happy with these as I finished them all extremely quickly
Next week I will be in Berlin so I won't be able to do any work unfortunately

Week 5: Bar Concepting, Bar Stools and Theatre Stage Curtains
This week I created a paintover in order to concept and create an image of what the finished space could look like. Lots of old vintage alcohol bottles, glasses and so on. I also added a bit of greenery through plants, which I feel really creates a nice space, opens it out, and adds a pleasant contrast. I then added a deep red carpet and a pair of old victorian oil lamps for an additional source of light as the space back there was previously too dark.
I then worked on a Victorian bar stool, to seat the customers at the bar we plan to have at the back of the theatre. After concepting, I went ahead and modelled it properly, and took the high poly into zbrush for detailing.
Next I created a set of curtains for the main theatre stage. I made it with both a more textured material, and a smoother one to test out in the level. I also added some gold embellishments the the bottom trim of the curtains to add interest and a further sense of grandeur.

Week 5 - Texturing, Level Work & Bar
Week 5
This week I finished texturing the stage and imported that into the level
I designed the bar area, modelled and textured it
I created a very basic carpet runner texture as a placeholder which I do need to improve on and created a vertex painter for the wooden floor to add scuffs
Week 5 and 6
For week 5 and 6 I was out of the country in Spain. Unfortunately I regret going at this time as it has impacted how much time I have to work on this project. Due to having no computer and no internet I couldn't do any work for the project so I spent the two weeks gathering reference with Archie, Harriet, Hans and Josiah. These are a small fraction of the reference that I collected that could be used during this project.

Week 5- More Assets
It was my job this week to make additional assets for scene dressing. So, this week I created violin cases, tables and a set of ornate shelves. These assets will help dress areas of the backstage and orchestral pit. I also used this week to play with the lighting and make the scene have a better atmosphere.

Week 5: More Assets
This week I managed to finish the lamp, start the armchairs and fix some minor issues with other models including: fixing lightmaps and scale. I added longer chain to the chandelier, so it hangs lower.
Lamp renders:
Armchair reference and mood board:
Armchairs base meshes:
Current progress of sculpting:
Creating base mesh for armchair was a lot harder than I expected it to be. After almost full day of work I had to start over but I managed to get to the point where I was a lot quicker than when I was doing it for the first time. I got stuck when I was creating back rest, but luckily a friend from 3rd year who recently modelled some sofas and armchairs was able to point me in the right direction.
I'm hoping to finish the armchair and get started with another asset by the end of next week.
